For today’s comic strip, I had to totally wreck my li’l babies. So here’s some fun photos to celebrate this Halloween!

Okay, so this Spirit Day thing is nice and all. I really feel bad for the kids who killed themselves for being picked on, because I believe we’ve ALL been in that position. Public school… and heck, public in general, is a cruel place to try to develop your own unique interests. And while I totally feel for the people involved and the grieving families… I also feel like the holiday as an LGBT-movement is a tad unfair.( For those who don’t know what it is, it’s an honorary day to commemorate those who killed themselves after being bullied for their sexuality. You can read all about it here.)

Afterall, kids have been killing themselves long before, about many issues: Ugly girls because the mean girls tease them, fat kids cuz everyone teases them, unpopular kids, “furfags,” people with mental illnesses, kids with religious differences, heck the list goes on. By dedicating this day as an LGBT movement, it takes away from the real POINT of why the kids committed suicide. They were bullied, plain and simple, whether it was over sexual preference or the way they wore their clothes, the point isn’t that we should honor them as homosexual martyrs. One, it further segregates them from the populous by focusing on the fact that THEIR suicide is different from any OTHER suicide based on their sexual preference, and two, it may dilute the real issue here: High schoolers, you need to stop being dicks. Stop being mean to each other. Stop picking on kids cuz they’re different, cuz let’s face it, you were once picked on too. And two, parents, involve yourselves in your kids’ lives. Give them the love they can’t receive from fellow classmates. Ultimately, people lean towards suicide when they have nothing else to lean on. It’s sad to think that people don’t have their parents to lean on, and that they’d rather remove themselves from the world, than to seek consolation in a loving family member.
