Thank You All for Your Support!

It’s only been a couple days since I’ve officially discontinued Pompfiction, but already, support and kind comments have been pouring in. I can’t thank you all so very very much for your support in my decision, and equally, I can not apologize enough for those whom I’ve let down. This has been a difficult decision, myself, as Pompfiction was my life, my future, and my identity. But I think it was for those reasons that I’ve been called to do other things. I can not be contained by a single work, at least not at this stage in my life. I feel like there is still room for me to grow as an artist and creator, and I will promise you that I will never give up drawing, regardless of what I wind up doing with this decision. I will still be creating comics, stories, characters, and fiction, though the themes and characters may change, and nothing is forever. I may return to complete what I’ve started here months or years down the road, or perhaps not at all. But that is the wonderful thing about life is that you can never predict where the winds of change will take you.

That being said, I’ve learned so much from my experiences with Pompfiction, and from the people involved. I originally dedicated the launch of this project to my late professor, who inspired me to pursue webcomics. I will not let that ambition die with him, and will pursue webcomics again one day, maybe soon, or farther down my path. You all have been such a great support for me, and the hardest part about letting go of this, is letting you guys down, but it doesn’t mean good bye! Please keep in touch with me, every one of you. I will always put forth my best effort in all that I do to serve my God, all of you, and myself as an artist. For those of you who would like to buy Pompfiction Vol1, it will remain for sale here.  And to answer some questions, yes, I will continue to leave Pompfiction.com here on the internet for a long while, as a testament to over a year and a half of work.

The End of Pompfiction?

Well, where to begin… It breaks my heart to tell you that I will no longer be updating Pompfiction.

I can’t begin to apologize enough to the hundreds of people I will be letting down. So many of my loyal followers have come forward to tell me what a difference my comic has made in their lives, and I will forever remain grateful. It has given me such a deep fulfillment to know that my work could have an impact on anyone’s lives. It hurts to know that I will be letting down the people who have just begun to read my comic, for those who have followed it from its early developmental stages years ago, for the loyal readers who have stuck by me for every update, for even the casual visitors, and for the people that inspired me to put my heart into my work… I can’t shake the feeling that this’ll be a grave disappointment for some people, that I’ve let people down, and so I am sorry.

After taking a week off of Pompfiction, I feel even more moved to end it all together. I can not fully explain what has caused this feeling, but it is a mix of two things. Yesterday morning, while trying to work on today’s page, I felt so strongly that God was leading me to drop everything, and follow a new path. Though it hurts to leave behind what has become so much a part of my life for the past few years and venture into the unknown, I can not deny my faith. But there have been things leading up to this point. Upon attempting to pour out my best work for the return of Pompfiction after a one week break, I realized that my heart wasn’t wholly invested in the work. For as many great things as this comic has brought for me, it is always a reminder of so many heartbreaks in my life. It wasn’t always a one-man show, as I draw my inspiration from my friends and loved ones in my life, but it has been abandonment after abandonment, and due to recent events, I feel that I can no longer invest my heart into this project. For my characters are alive through the relationships with certain people I have to draw upon, and now that they are broken, I have lost heart for my work. I feel I would be doing a disservice to you and I, if I continued to pour out heartless, uninspired work… I’m just afraid that three times is a charm, and I can’t go on, on a broken heart.

That being said, I don’t know where I’m going now, but the winds of change are on my back. Though I feel defeated now, I sense something bigger yet to come. I hope to finish the Steel Chef chapter on my own timing, and publish it one day in Pompfiction Vol2, as a final homage to the work that I’ve invested over a year and a half of my time in developing. I can not promise when that day will come, or if it will, but those are my hopes as of now.

Please forgive me for my infidelity to any and all of my loyal readers. I wish I had more to offer than my sincerest apologies. It has been a good run.

Pompfiction Break- March 18-24

It’s been a little over a year and a half since Pompfiction first started, and I’m proud to say that I’ve never missed an update yet… except till now. God’s been doing some powerful things in my life and in the lives of my loved ones, and I’ve just been spending more time delving into what it means to really accept the love that our savior has to offer. These past few weeks have been a crazy roller coaster for me, and I feel brought out of a real long rut and ready to hit the ground running. I admit I’ve been pretty bad at building a buffer for my site, doing the pages the day before they come out because I feel like I have a thousand other things pulling for my attention as I try to find my place in the world. I want to come back to Pompfiction refreshed and renewed after a small break to focus on someone more important in my life who’s bigger than my webcomic, bigger than my career, and the name is Jesus.

So from Friday March 18th through Thursday March 24th, I won’t be updating Pompfiction, but expect me to come back full force, hopefully with renewed vigor, higher quality work, and a tenacity to make my art all it can be once I have the root of my passion tended to first. This decision was difficult for me to make, as it goes against my OCD of always having Pompfiction updated when I said it would be, but I feel moved to this challenge, to prove that greater things can be achieved not by holding onto our own logic, but by letting go. Thanks for everyone’s loyalty and understanding and I’ll see you in a week! Get out and enjoy the sunshine in the meantime! The start of Spring’s one of the best times of the year!

Meet the Bodgies

Meet the Bodgies

So my college buddy created a cast of characters to be used in Pompfiction, which I’ve gratefully accepted and so it only seems fitting to introduce you all to the gang of Australian bodgies, The TailPipes. Susie used to belong to the TailPipes before she joined Ernie and the Jaybirds, even dated their leader, “Pete the Feet.” The rest of their story is still currently under development, but do check out the designs by Celest.

These characters will eventually be featured in the Pompfiction world, but until then, you can check them out in the Comic Libs: Introducing Jodie Jacobs (Pete’s mom), Pete’s Mom’s Got it Goin’ On, Shrimp on the Barbie, and more!
